Lloyd's Register Foundation helps to protect life and property by supporting engineering-related education, public engagement and the application of research.

Although set up in 2012, the Foundation draws on a history of public benefit dating back to 1760 through its trading arm, Lloyd's Register Group Limited. Importantly, the objectives and mission of the Foundation remain the same as those of Lloyd's Register previously, to protect life and property and to advance transport and engineering education and research...because life              matters.

 The Foundation's mission is

  • to secure for the benfit of the community high technical standards of design, manufacture, construction, maintenance, operation and performance for the purpose of enhancing the safety of life and property, at sea and on land and in the air;
  • the advancement of public education, including within the transportation industries, and any other engineering and technological disciplines.

Our most direct means of achieving our mission is through awarding grants to research and education organisations. Our approach is to be inclusive, acting as a catalyst and working with partners and others with similar aims to ourselves, focussing our funding in the areas of supporting excellent research, education and training, accelerating the application of research, and public engagement.
