Andy McMurray joined the National Space Academy as Head of Teaching and Learning in January 2014.

He completed his degree in physics at Loughborough University and then his PGCE at Leicester University, before going straight into teaching.

Andy has now spent 22 years teaching in the 14-19 sector where he has taught Physics at GCSE, AS and A2 level; Core and Applied Science at GCSE level; BTEC Science and GCSE Mathematics. 

In addition Andy has been a regular tutor for A-level Physics students and an examiner and moderator for OCR Physics. During this time Andy completed an MBA in Educational leadership and Management at the University of Leicester.

As an Assistant Principal at a Leicestershire Upper School, Andy led the development of Teaching and Leaning supporting all staff with their CPD and training needs and leading the Initial Teacher Training (ITT), Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) and induction programmes. He has worked with ITT students from Nottingham Trent University, Loughborough University and the University of Leicester and contributes to the ITT programme at Leicester.

Andy now continues to teach Physics at AS and A2 Level as part of the National Space Academy's Space Engineering Level 3 course.
