Find your Space Series 3: Head of International Business Operations
Find your space: Caroline Sloan
Caroline Sloan is a policy advisor and the Head of International Business Operations at Stellar Solutions Aerospace. Her non-traditional career path serves as a powerful testament to the fact that you do not need a background in STEM to build a high-impact career in the space sector.
Originally graduating as a mature student with both an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in archaeology from the University of Reading, Caroline has consistently broken stereotypes by applying critical analytical thinking and material science perspectives to the evolving cosmic economy.
Before stepping into commercial aerospace leadership, Caroline built a highly diverse portfolio directing uncrewed underwater vehicle trials at Navy Command HQ and leading the Satellite Filing Management Team at UK Space Command.
Today, her work sits at the critical intersection of international diplomacy, aerospace technology, and regulatory governance. She leverages her unique expertise to advise global clients—including the UK and European Space Agencies, NASA, and the Ministry of Defence—on complex issues ranging from orbital sustainability and space debris to satellite design.
"People always think 'oh you're an astronaut' when you say you're in space. There are so many other jobs, and those other jobs are so broad-ranging, so you don't need a background in space to do it. I think you can do almost anything in the space industry that you can do in most other industries."
