Ruth Rowsell
Ruth studied Chemistry with the Open University before completing the GTP with Nottingham Trent University. Later she returned to the Open University where she completed her degree in Physics.
Since qualifying as a teacher Ruth has been teaching Science, A level Chemistry and A Level Physics at schools in Rutland, Peterborough and Lincoln, she has been a program manager and Lead Internal Verifier for the Applied Science BTEC.
Ruth is a keen supporter of STEM enrichment running successful Science and Engineering clubs at both key stage 3 and 4, as well as supporting Primary Science within the Lincoln area.
Ruth was chosen to co-present Teacher Masterclasses at NASA's 2010 Space Exploration Conference at the Johnson Space Centre in Texas. Ruth has a keen interest in the challenges faced by Girls wishing to study Physics and Engineering and she has developed masterclasses and talks to support them.
A masterclass or CPD session delivered by Ruth can include:
- Human impact on the environment and interdependence
- Rocket science – speed calculations, endothermic and exothermic reactions, balancing equations
- Conditions in space and on planets in our Solar System
- New materials and rocket design
- The search for life on other planets
- The Physics of re-entry
- Return to the Moon
