"You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself."- Alan Watts
John studied Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Classical Civilisations at A level before studying Physics, Maths and Chemistry at Durham University.

At work...
I serve my school as the head of Physics, alongside delivering science outreach to local schools. I also work as a consultant helping organisations reduce sexual harassment.

Break time...
In my spare time I enjoy walking up big hills, time at the beach, and having fun with my children. I play some chess (fairly badly), and have a go at DIY (even more badly).

We asked John...

Given the chance, would you go to space?
In theory, I would love to go to space and see the earth from a totally unique perspective. Astronauts always talk about how life changing it is, but it feels like something you have to be there to fully experience. Unfortunately, I am a bit claustrophobic and modern rockets are a bit cramped...
What's the best thing about science?
"The most incomprehensible thing about the universe is that it is comprehensible." Science allows us to understand how the world around us works. It rewards out curiosity, not just with answers, but with deeper and more interesting questions. Science reminds us how small we are, but also how important we are.

What's the best thing about working at the National Space Academy?
The opportunity to work with NSA is an amazing privilege. Learning and collaborating with world-class practitioners, delivering exciting and dynamic sessions, seeing participants light up as they learn more about the wonders of space, all culminate to make the exprerience incredibly rewarding.
