The UK Space Agency, one of the National Space Academy's key funders and supporters, has teamed up with the Nottingham Geospatial Institute, including National Space Academy Project Scientist Dr Simon Roberts, to run hands-on educational sessions based at the European Space Expo in London this December. This free public exhibition will be parked in Horse Guards Parade, Central London from 03 to 09 December and is a great opportunity to discover how space exploration can make a real difference to the lives of people across Europe. The dome will showcase the flagship European space programmes in satellite navigation and monitoring the Earth from space.
Each educational session is open to approximately 25 students aged 14 - 16 years. As well as experiencing the educational interactive displays within the dome, students will have the opportunity to use GPS technology in and around St James' Park to learn more about space.
This will be a fantastic hands-on opportunity to show students how geography, science, mathematics and technology can be used to develop technologies that benefit many aspects of daily life including predicting the weather, using a SatNav or controlling traffic.
These sessions will run from 03 - 07 December 2012, with 3 x 2 hour sessions per day taking place from 9.00 -11.00, 11.00 – 13.00 and 13.00 – 15.00.
The sessions are free to attend although unfortunately the UK Space Agency cannot offer help towards the cost of travel to and from the events.
