Yesterday three students from the National Space Academy's Space Engineering course at Loughborough College were called upon to help Sky News interview Tim Peake via live link with the International Space Station. Producers from Sky News worked with the National Space Centre to broadcast the link-up live to the centre's family visitors and fellow students from the course.
Students Richard Jones, 16, David Thomson, 17 and Emily Bradley, 19 visited the Sky News studio in west London to pose their questions directly to Tim Peake during his twenty minute live broadcast interview. They also showed one of the physics demonstrations from the National Space Academy's education project that Tim has been working on, Astro Academy: Principia, contrasting the earth-bound demonstration with video filmed by Tim on the International Space Station.
The National Space Centre in Leicester hosted Sky News reporter Joe Tidy, who spoke to the remaining cohort of Space Engineering students both before and after the live link up, as well as to some of the centre's younger visitors and National Space Academy Director, Anu Ojha. Over 400 visitors came together to watch the broadcast and heard Tim answer questions on the science experiments he is conducting and his thoughts on future manned missions to space.
