Sven is a science communicator at W5, Belfast, and former deep-sea biologist, specialising in marine larval biology, holobiont ecology of chemosymbiotic marine metazoa and the impacts of deep-sea mining on benthic invertebrates. Advocate for strengthening science capital through creative engagement! Obsessed with integrative imaging approaches to answer important biological questions. Always designing,  building, crafting and upcycling digital aids and physical props for my work. On the rare occasions that I switch off from work, I love being near, on or in the sea, rock-climbing, painting and spending time with my family and friends.

Perhaps when all the places on Earth have been explored. I could only venture to space in good conscience if I felt that we, as a species, had learnt to live in harmony with our environment here on Earth rather than plunder its resources.
