First Year Space Engineer receives Ogden Young Physicist of the Year Award

James Brown, a First Year student at Loughborough College, is on the Space Engineering course delivered jointly by Loughborough College and the National Space Academy.

James is not only a talented engineer and mathematician but also an outstanding physicist and this has been recently recognised by the Ogden Trust and the University of Warwick.

On Wednesday 14th June James and his family, accompanied by his physics teacher (and the National Space Academy's Head of Teaching and Learning) Andy McMurray, travelled to the University of Warwick for the annual Ogden Young Physicist of the Year awards.

During the evening, there was the opportunity to see some fascinating demonstrations from the Department of Physics and a lecture from Dr. Rachel Edwards on the use of ultrasound to inspect stress critical materials.

The evening finished with the official presentation of the awards and prizes. The National Space Academy is delighted to note that James' award was presented in the same week as confirmation of an offer of a four-week placement at Rolls-Royce, Derby.  During this placement James will be working on a drone for power plant inspections that could provide a means of inspecting hard-to-reach or dangerous areas.
