ATV launch celebrated by new National Space Academy videos
- 12th Aug 2014
The National Space Academy is excited to announce the production of five new videos which were released recently to mark the launch of the fifth and final Automatic Transfer Vehicle (ATV). This series of educational videos aimed at those aged 16+ was commissioned by the European Space Agency to mark the culmination of the programme of unmanned vehicles that have been demonstrating a novel way to supply the International Space Station since 2008.
Presented by Anu Ojha, the documentary style videos highlight the link between school science and space applications.
Each video celebrates the work achieved by a great pioneer of science for whom each of the ATVs were named: Jules Verne, Johannes Kepler, Edoardo Amaldi, Albert Einstein and the most recent ATV5 Georges Lemaître.
To go along with the five ATV videos, the National Space Academy has also produced seven 'Teach With Space' demonstration videos, presented by Anu Ojha, Sophie Allan and Judith Green, which showcase exciting classroom-ready space science practicals, linked to the curriculum in physics and chemistry. Demonstrations include the spectacular whoosh bottle (see below),and all of these can be found on the ESA website.
To assist teachers, special guides will be available alongside the videos on the ESA Website which will include information on how to carry out the practicals safely and use them in the classroom.
