Since 2012 the National Space Academy has been delivering this unique Level 3 course combining academic rigour with vocational study, all taught within a space context. The inaugural course, taught jointly with Loughborough College, is now in its 4th year, and new centres in different locations are also delivering the course. Each centre has a slightly different focus, for example offering different BTEC modules, but the main features of the course at every centre are:
- A Level Physics
- A Level Mathematics
- BTEC Level 3 Engineering
- Visits to space industry sites
- Talks from space sector scientists and engineers
- Opportunities for work experience within the UK space sector
- Course alumni go on either to university to study Physics or Engineering, or take up places on industrial Higher Apprenticeships at companies such as Airbus Defence and Space and Rolls-Royce
