Christopher Duff

Southern Regional Project Manager, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory

Christopher Duff joined the National Space Academy in May 2014 as the new Southern Regional Project Manager based at the Harwell Campus.  He manages a programme of events supporting schools in the South of England both at Harwell and externally, and helps people working in the UK space sector engage with education as well as outreach.

Chris completed a BSc dual honours degree at Keele University in Astrophysics and English Literature.  Since leaving University in 2007, Chris has been a keen advocate for science communication and engaging the general public about science and scientific research. Formerly a member of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Public Engagement team, for the past six years Chris organised and delivered programmes of schools and public engagement at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL).

A visit to Houston Space Centre as a child ignited Chris's wonder and enthusiasm for space and space travel. It is that wonder and enthusiasm that he strives to pass on to others.

Chris works alongside the Public Engagement team at RAL, the RAL Space Public Engagement team and the Knowledge Exchange team at the Satellite Applications Catapult.

'I love that light bulb moment: the moment at which you explain to someone a subject or topic they thought was too hard or haven't understood until then - and when you see the recognition in their eyes that they now understand. Experiencing the joy of that exact moment is truly rewarding.'

Thanks to sponsorship from PPG we are offering £300 bursaries for schools towards one of our Masterclasses for 10 - 14 year olds - find out more here.
