Allan Reid

Post-16, Allan studied Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English, French and Economics before completing a degree in Physics at Glasgow University.

Allan went on to pursue a successful 15-year career in sailing. He now teaches physics and science at Elgin Academy in NE Scotland, where he has been since 2007.

"From here in Elgin, space is closer than Aberdeen! I want to get the message out to as many young people as possible that as well as bringing out the best in human aspirations and endeavour, space is no longer exclusively the preserve of chisel-jawed military test pilots. There are opportunities for all who want be involved. We stand on the edge of a vast ocean and have only just dipped our toes in the water."

At work...
Allan has spent 2 years on secondment as a Development Officer, training Moray's primary and secondary staff across 48 schools in the use of ICT to support learning and teaching. He has also worked with Education Scotland developing stellar physics staff support materials for the new Advanced Higher Physics qualification.

Break time...
"I further my studies of fluid dynamics by surfing and acoustics by drumming in a rock band."

We asked Allan...

Given the chance, would you go to space?
We live in space! But yes, I'd like to go and look around a bit further from home.
