Ben Windass

Ben WindassHead of Science at St Wilfrid's RC College, Tyneside

Ben is Head of Science at St Wilfrid's RC College, South Shields. He was formally the Subject Leader for Physics and Chemistry at Ashington High School in Northumberland. He initially qualified as a Chemist (MSc) at Newcastle and Leeds Universities, working industrially in a research team synthesising anti-cancer drugs. After a number of years, he retrained with the Science Learning Centre and York University gaining a MEd in Physics Education.

Since qualifying as a teacher Ben has been successfully teaching GCSE Science and A Level Physics and Chemistry. He has developed and delivered masterclasses to students from KS2 up to KS5 across the north of England. He has also worked closely with local Universities to engage ITT students with context based learning, specifically Space as a context.

Ben is the lead in for the Enthuse project across South Tyneside, a cross phase initiative involving 15 schools to engage students and staff with STEM based projects and learning. He is also an SLE experienced in working with middle leaders and Science departments to improve attainment.
