Bringing the Universe to Your Classroom
Faulkes Telescope Project
Sarah's interest in astronomy was ignited in high school by her very enthusiastic Physics teacher. After completing A-Levels in physics, chemistry and maths, she decided to continue her studies in physics and completed a 4-year MPhys degree in Physics with Astronomy at Cardiff University.
Sarah stayed in Cardiff to complete a PhD in Astronomy, during which time her work took her around the world to speak at conferences and use telescopes.
Sarah soon realised that her passion was in outreach and education rather than research, so after finishing her PhD in 2005, Sarah joined Faulkes Telescope Project (FTP) as Education Manager.
Sarah is now Director of Education for FTP and is responsible for development of the FTP website and education projects as well as managing the teacher training programmes, both face to face and online, in the UK and overseas. Sarah helped set up a new BSc degree in Observational Astronomy at the University of South Wales where she is now a Senior Lecturer. She is also the UK representative for the European Hands-On Universe Project. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys singing, running and travelling.
